Our History

Our Beginnings

We the Sisters of the Child Jesus are a congregation of diocesan right founded in Chilubula, Kasama Archdiocese in 1926 to serve the under privileged people of Northern Province by Bishop Etienne Larue, a Missionary of Africa, who was Vicar Apostolic of Bangweulu Vicariate.

Our story started in 1918 with a request to become a priest by a young girl named T. Ngosa Nshindano who was a catechumen. This extraordinary desire from a young woman in that era sparked the beginning of what would become a thriving congregation dedicated to serving God's people in Zambia.

From a humble request in 1918 to a flourishing congregation — the Sisters of the Child Jesus have served the people of Zambia for nearly a century.
